Terms of service
The short version: read what you like, share it with a link, don't copy it wholesale, and check the place itself before you plan a trip around something we wrote.
1. Who we are
july.us and west.us are published by July & West (“we”, “us”). These terms cover the two websites. The July & West store is a separate site with its own terms of sale, shown at checkout.
2. Using the sites
By reading or using west.us you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. You may use the sites for personal, non-commercial reading. You may not scrape the sites at scale, republish their content, or use them to train a machine-learning model without our written permission.
3. The writing and the pictures
The stories on these sites are ours. You are welcome to quote a short passage with a link back to the page; you may not reproduce a story in full, on any medium, without permission. The photographs belong to their owners: most are in the public domain, and the rest are used under licences that are named in the credits below. If you want to use a photograph, the credits tell you where it came from and on what terms.
4. What our stories are, and are not
Our stories are written to be enjoyed. They describe how a place or a season feels, and they may draw an atmosphere as much as report a fact. They are not travel advice, safety advice, or a substitute for checking with a place directly. Roads close, hours change, and businesses come and go; before you act on anything you read here — a route, an opening time, a season, a price — confirm it with the place itself. We link to the town, the park or the organisation wherever we can for exactly that reason. We accept no liability for a trip planned on our prose.
5. Corrections
If we have something wrong, tell us through the form on our About page. We correct errors of fact when they are pointed out to us.
6. Links to other sites
We link to places, organisations and small businesses we think are worth your time. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for what they say or sell.
7. Messages you send us
If you write to us, you give us permission to read your message and to reply to it. We will not publish it, or your name, without asking you first.
8. No warranty
The sites are provided as they are. We do our best to keep them accurate and available, but we make no promise that they will be either at any given moment.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, July & West is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the sites or your reliance on anything published on them. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the use of the sites, which is nothing.
10. Changes
We may change these terms from time to time. The version on this page is the current one, and continuing to use the sites after a change means you accept it.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States.
12. Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent through our About page.
